Jogjakarta: Kalibiru and Candi Borobudur

Being an Indonesian who live in Java Island doesn’t mean I have visited all the city in Java. I could count with my finger the number of city over Indonesia I had visited. Jogjakarta have been one in my bucketlist. I tend to love the city but never had the change to visit it until yesterday. Yes, yesterday in my life.

Jogjakarta or Yogyakarta is the capital city of Yogyakarta Special Region. Once it became the capital city of Indonesia. It is located on Java Island and known as a center of education (Kota Pelajar). The city is so popular of the traditional heritage such as classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik, poetry, and puppet shows. Yogyakarta Sultanate a Javanese monarchy that was lead by Sultan Hamengkubuono X, which was the result of Mataram Sultanate breakup.
Using a train, me and my friends went to Jogja yesterday. We bought Prameks’ tickets – thanks to our driver who bought it – which cost for 8K IDR per person to travel from Purwosari Station in Solo to Tugu Yogyakarta Station in Jogja. You could buy the tickets 3 hours before in the station or you could reserved your ticket 7 days before. Prameks’ ticket was a free seated one, so you need to be fast if you wanted to get seated. Yesterday, we ran to the last carriage, the woman carriage, but the seat was full so halfway we need to stand but after all it was an okay for 1 hour 20 minutes ride.

Arrived in Jogja at 09.20 p.m is kind a hard to find a taxi driver inside the station. Mostly of the cab didn’t want to use the fare to take you to your destination. They will asked for unreasonable price which you could bargain. Be sure to check the fare first or bargain about half of it. Luckily, after we came out from the station’s carpark, we found a good taxi driver using  the fare to our hotel. Paid him for 40K IDR. The night hadn’t sleep in Jogja that day. There still a traffic along the Malioboro and some of the road.

We spent the night at Greenhost Boutique Hotel located on Prawirotaman 2. The hotel was a ecoGreen hotel, where you could find hydrophonic plant along the corridor. The room is very eco friendly yet comfortable for five of us. We booked two rooms and it cost uas arround 500K IDR for a king size bed per night. Anyway this hotel also happen to be one of the site used for shooting Indonesia Movie, called AADC2 in earlier this year.

Located in the rooftop of the hotel, there is a cafe which currently might be one of the famous hang out spot for the local called Agenda. Too bad we don’t have a change to tried it. We just felt tired and need our beauty sleep to explore Kalibiru and Candi Borobudur the next day. Earlier this morning I had a change to explore the rooftop a bit, there is so many plant grown there. You could find lettuce, kale, mints, chillies, pakcoy, and melon there.

Wisata Alam Kalibiru is one of the mainstream tourist spot in Jogjakarta. It is located in Kulon Progo You could find many instagramer who took pictures there. We rent an Avanza for 12 hours (475K IDR) with a driver who picked us at 07.00 a.m. The route to Kalibiru is a short steep one from the carpark. Although it was raining, it’s not stopping people to go there. You need to paid the entrace ticket for 10K IDR and if you want to took photo in the very mainstream spot you need to paid extra 10-15K IDR. We got a chance to take pictures in the third spot, the heart shape one which could be us for 3 persons on the same time. If you happened to arrived there early but not too early, I suggest you to go directly to the last spot rather than looking at the each spot because we got first on the last spot and if will cut you the queing time.

To take photo in Kalibiru, you could use their photographer service or you could use your own camera. For every photo you choose to take from their services, you need to pay 5K IDR with minimun 4 photos per person and you  will get the softcopy file so prepare a flashdrive if you an apple users or use the shareit apps.

Candi Borobudur was our next stop. This is one of my highlight going to Jogja because I never been there. Never been to the one of National Heritage, the used to be 7 Wonders of the World. Candi Borobudur was located on Magelang. It took us about 2 hours drive from Kalibiru. We arrived at around the area at noon and the was a traffic going to Borobudur, so we decided to have a lunch at Patio Plataran. They serve Western and Indonesia food and while you enjoy your food or cup tea, you could see the Borobudur from the restaurant.

It was raining heavily during the day and until we ended our trip. Walking in the rain inside the Candi Borobudur is one kind of a story. You could rent an umbrella for 5-10K IDR. The entrance ticket is 30K IDR per person. The steps already been restored so it doesn’t feel slippery anymore. However, the route was not so clear so you might be bumping with anyone who is going different direction with you and when you carried an open umbrella, it might be annoying one.

We finished our Candi tour at 03.00 p.m. No more site we could visit although at first we wanted to tried Lava Tour, but due to the very short time we decided to go back to the city to catch our flight home. My friends decided to take a flight to Jakarta while me and my other friend decided to take the train. So here I am in Station Tugu, waiting for my train at 10.00 p.m

During the trip we manage to eat some local foods and hang out in one of the popular  restaurant.
